Context
A company in hypergrowth needed its engineering organization to move faster. The obvious response was to increase pressure and ask teams for more output.
That approach can create a short-term burst, but it does not create a capability the organization can keep. Delivery speed had to become a property of the environment in which teams worked.
Decision
I focused on the system: platform modernization, observability standards, continuous-delivery mechanics, AI-assisted development, and an operating model aligned to the work.
The objective was to shorten feedback loops and make shipping routine, so speed came from how the organization operated rather than from repeatedly increasing individual effort.
Tradeoff
Systemic improvement takes longer to establish than a push for immediate output. It requires investment in foundations and operating discipline before every benefit becomes visible.
The alternative was to borrow velocity from individual effort and repay it later through fragility, inconsistency, and slower learning.
Outcome
